You finally beat that boss. After forty tries, the "LEGEND FELLED" text hits the screen and you're holding a shiny new Remembrance. Then you visit Enia at the Roundtable Hold and realize she’s offering two incredible items, but you can only pick one. It’s a classic FromSoftware gut-punch.
Luckily, you can cheat the system. Well, not really cheat, but use the built-in duplication mechanic. Honestly, though, the game does a pretty poor job of explaining that there's a strict limit on how many times you can do this. You can't just farm these. Each location is a one-and-done deal. If you waste a duplication on a boss weapon you don't even like, you've basically deleted a chance to get something better later.
Here is the breakdown of all remembrance duplication locations across the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
The Walking Mausoleums of the Lands Between
In the base game, you’re looking for those giant, bell-clanging stone turtles. Most people call them Walking Mausoleums. To use them, you usually have to whack the white skull-like barnacles off their feet until they settle down.
But here is the catch: Not all mausoleums are created equal. There are seven total in the base game. Five have bells, and two do not. If a mausoleum doesn't have a big bell swinging underneath it, it cannot duplicate Shardbearer Remembrances. That means no Malenia, no Rykard, and no Radahn at those specific spots. You've got to be careful where you spend your "currency."
1. Weeping Peninsula
This is usually the first one players find. It's wandering around the big open field south of the Isolated Merchant’s Shack. It has a bell, so it’s fair game for any boss in the game. It’s the "training wheels" mausoleum.
2. Liurnia of the Lakes (The Academy One)
Found in the water northeast of Raya Lucaria. This one is annoying. It doesn't have barnacles on its feet. You have to use a Spirit Spring nearby to jump onto its back or wait for it to walk near a cliff so you can hop on. It has a bell.
3 & 4. The Mausoleum Compound
These two are right next to each other in northeast Liurnia, near the "Mausoleum Compound" Site of Grace. Warning: These do NOT have bells. They are strictly for "lesser" legends like Astel or the Ancestor Spirit. If you're trying to double up on a Demigod weapon here, the menu just won't show up. It’s not a bug; it’s just how they’re designed.
5. Mountaintops of the Giants
Right outside Castle Sol. This one is aggressive—it summons lightning. Bring it down the usual way by hitting its legs. It has a bell.
6. Consecrated Snowfield
Located in the far northwest, near the Apostate Derelict. This thing is a nightmare because it shoots magical artillery at you while you're trying to clean its feet. It has a bell, but many players reported it being bugged in earlier versions of the game. If you've updated your game recently, it should work fine.
7. Deeproot Depths
Hidden away in the underground roots. Like the Academy one, you have to parkour onto this one from the giant tree roots. It has a bell. It’s a bit of a trek to get here, but it’s one of the few places left if you’ve exhausted the easy ones.

Shadow of the Erdtree: The Stone Coffins
When the DLC dropped, everyone was looking for more walking turtles. They aren't there. Instead, FromSoftware switched to static Remembrance Duplication Coffins. There are only three of them in the Land of Shadow.
They look like large stone altars sitting in water or near finger-related ruins. You don't have to fight them or "bring them down." You just walk up and interact.
The Cathedral of Manus Metyr Coffin
This is the easiest one to find if you're following Count Ymir's questline. It’s sitting in the lake just southwest of the Cathedral. Look for the Marionette soldiers guarding the water. If you see them, you’re close.
Finger Ruins of Rhia Coffin
You’ll find this one in the southern part of the map. From the Finger Ruins of Rhia Site of Grace, head southeast toward the cliff edge. It’s tucked away in a spot that looks like a dead end but actually overlooks the ruins.
Finger Ruins of Dheo (Scaduview)
This is the "hidden" one. You can't just walk here. You have to go to the Shadow Keep, Back Gate, and use the "O Mother" gesture in front of a specific statue of Marika to open a secret door. Once you’re in the Hinterlands, head east toward the Finger Ruins of Dheo. The coffin is at the northern edge of the ruins, tucked under a cliff.
Managing Your Limited Resources
So, let's do the math.
- 7 Mausoleums in the base game.
- 3 Coffins in the DLC.
- Total: 10 duplications per playthrough.
There are 15 Remembrances in the base game and 10 in the DLC (plus the Heart of Bayle, which doesn't count for duplication). That’s 25 bosses and only 10 chances to double up.
Pro Tip: You don't actually need the Remembrance in your inventory to duplicate it. If you already ate it for 40,000 runes or traded it for a sword, you can still go to a mausoleum and get it back. The game "remembers" that you defeated the boss.
What should you actually duplicate?
Honestly, some items are just better than others.
- Remembrance of a God and a Lord (Radahn/Miquella): This gives you three options, but you can only pick one. You literally have to duplicate this if you want the different versions of the swords in one run.
- Messmer the Impaler: His spear is top-tier for Faith/Dex builds, but his incantation is also a nuke.
- The Elden Beast: Both the Sacred Relic Sword (for farming) and Marika's Hammer are legendary.
Don't waste these on bosses where you only want one item. If you hate sorcery, don't duplicate Rennala's soul just because you can. Save those slots for the endgame heavy hitters.
Actionable Next Steps for Your Playthrough
If you're looking to maximize your build right now, here is what you should do:
- Check your "Remembrance" tab at the Twin Maiden Husks or Enia. See which ones you've already cashed in.
- Identify the "No Bell" Mausoleums in Liurnia. Use those for Astel or the Regal Ancestor Spirit first so you don't "waste" a Belled Mausoleum on a non-demigod boss.
- Unlock the Hinterlands. If you haven't found the "O Mother" gesture in Bonny Village yet, go get it. You're missing out on one of the three DLC duplication spots without it.
- Plan for NG+. If you’ve used all 10 spots, you’ll have to restart the journey to get more. The locations reset, but your boss progress for duplication does too—you'll have to kill the bosses again in the new cycle to duplicate them.
Knowing where these spots are is half the battle. The other half is having the self-control not to spend them all on Godrick the Grafted in the first ten hours.
