Look, we’ve all been there. You’re blasting through Sky Sanctuary Act 2, the music is peaking, and you’re feeling like a speed god. Then you finish the stage and realize you’re still missing that one stubborn Red Star Ring. It’s annoying. In Sonic X Shadow Generations, these collectibles aren't just for show anymore; they’re your ticket to unlocking those precious Skill Books and concept art that completionists crave.
Sky Sanctuary is notoriously vertical. If you miss a jump or take a lower path too early, you’ve basically locked yourself out of a ring until you restart the level. I've spent way too much time falling through clouds trying to find that fourth one. Let’s break down exactly where these five rings are hiding so you can get back to S-Ranking the rest of the game.

The High-Speed Hunt for Red Rings
The first two come at you fast. Like, really fast. You barely have time to blink before the first opportunity passes.
Red Ring 1 shows up almost immediately. After you hit that first big trick ramp at the start of the stage, do not just hold boost and hope for the best. You need to aim for the high path. You’ll see some moving platforms and aerial hoops. The ring is floating right on one of those moving platforms. If you fall to the ground level here, just restart. It takes five seconds and saves you the headache of finishing a "failed" run.
Moving on, Red Ring 2 is tied to your ability to handle the Rainbow Rings. As you keep pushing forward, stay on the upper platforms. You’ll see three Rainbow Rings hanging in the air. You want to aim for the one on the left. If you time your jump and maybe throw in a little trick for extra air, you’ll snag the ring easily. If you miss the hoop, you miss the ring. Simple as that.
The Fountain and the Teleporters
The middle of the stage is where things get a bit more "platformer" and a bit less "straight line."
- Red Ring 3: The Fountain Room. Eventually, you’ll hit a large indoor-ish area with a massive fountain in the center. Don't just run past it. You need to use Homing Attacks on the Egg Robos hovering around. They are basically a ladder. Bounce off them to reach the very top of the fountain. The third Red Ring is sitting right there, waiting for you to grab it before you head back out into the clouds.
- Red Ring 4: The Teleporter Path. This is the one that trips most people up. After the fountain, you’ll eventually hit a side-scrolling section. You’ll see a spring that launches you toward some falling blocks. Boost through those, hit the next spring, and you’ll land in an upper area. Here’s the trick: jump back over the spring you just hit and aim for the teleporter. Stay on this high ground. You’ll see two Rainbow Rings. Go for the higher, further one. It’ll launch you to a platform where you can see the Red Ring in the distance. Use Homing Attacks on the enemies to bridge the gap.
The Final Dash
Red Ring 5 is all about the ziplines. Towards the end of the act, you’ll grab a long zipline (pulley) right near a checkpoint. Most players just ride it to the end. Don't do that. About halfway down, look to your right. There is a second zipline hanging there. You have to jump off the first one and Homing Attack or air-dash to catch the second one. If you nail the transition, you’ll slide right into the final Red Ring.

Why Bother Collecting Them?
Honestly, collecting the Sonic X Shadow Generations Sky Sanctuary Act 2 red rings is mostly about the "Gauge Rebooter" skill. In the original 2011 version, this was a game-changer for speedrunning because it helps manage your boost meter more effectively. In the 2024/2025 remaster, the rewards are just as sweet, especially since the game tracks which specific ring you've grabbed with a new HUD element. No more guessing if you're missing "Ring 3" or "Ring 4."
Pro Tips for Sky Sanctuary
- Don't Boost Constantly: I know, it's a Sonic game. But in Sky Sanctuary, over-boosting leads to over-shooting platforms.
- The "Restart" Strategy: If you miss a high-path entrance for Rings 1 or 2, just hit restart. These are so early in the level that it's faster than finishing the stage and coming back.
- Watch the Shadows: Since the lighting is updated in the Generations remake, use Sonic's shadow on the clouds to judge your landings. It's way more accurate than it used to be.
Once you’ve grabbed all five, the game will unlock the "Gauge Rebooter" skill (and some lovely concept art of the classic Sky Sanctuary zone). If you're going for the Platinum trophy or 1000/1000 Gamerscore, this is a non-negotiable stop on your journey.
Next Step: Head over to the Skill Shop and equip your new "Gauge Rebooter" skill. Then, head back into Sky Sanctuary Act 2 to aim for that S-Rank. With the Red Rings out of the way, you can focus entirely on your clear time and ring count without having to take those slower "collectible" paths.
