Finding a kneazle den in Hogwarts Legacy is honestly one of the smartest things you can do once you unlock the Nab-Sack. Why? Because these aren't just overgrown house cats with attitude problems. They’re basically the gold standard for late-game gear upgrades. If you've been wondering why your combat spells feel like they're hitting with the force of a wet noodle, it’s probably because you haven't been farming Kneazle Fur.
You need that fur for Tier 3 traits. Without it, you're just a student in a fancy robe. With it, you're a walking disaster for any goblin or poacher that crosses your path.
The Best Kneazle Den Locations
Most people struggle to find these because the map icons don't always pop up until you’re practically standing on top of them. I’ve spent way too much time flying around the Highlands, so here is the breakdown of where they actually hang out.
The Brocburrow Ruin (The "Easy" One)
This is usually the first den players stumble upon. Head to the hamlet of Brocburrow, which is southeast of Hogwarts. From there, fly directly south. You’ll see some crumbling ruins right on the edge of a forest. The kneazles love this spot.
It’s a great place to start because it’s close to a Floo Flame.
South Sea Bog
This one is a bit more of a trek. If you go to the Northern South Sea Bog Floo Flame and travel southeast, you’ll find a den tucked away near a large bandit camp. It’s a bit swampy and gross, but the kneazles don't seem to mind the mud. Just watch out for the poachers nearby; they aren't exactly friendly to "beast rescuers" like us.
Marunweem Lake
Way down south, past the coastal tunnel, there’s a den in the southwestern part of the Marunweem Lake region. It’s near the cliffs. This area is beautiful, but the enemies here are higher level, so don't go poking around if you're still rocking your starter gear.
Clagmar Coast and Cragcroftshire
If you’re a completionist, there are two more dens in the far south. One is northwest of the South Clagmar Coast Floo location, and the other is in Cragcroftshire. Honestly, by the time you reach these, you probably already have enough fur to outfit the entire Gryffindor common room, but they’re there if you need them.
How to Catch a Kneazle Without Pulling Your Hair Out
Kneazles are fast. Seriously fast. They have this annoying habit of bolting the second they see your Nab-Sack.
Don’t just run at them. You’ll fail.
The Pro Strategy: Use the Disillusionment charm to sneak up. Once you’re close, hit them with Arresto Momentum or Glacius. This freezes them in place long enough for you to get through the three-button capture sequence. If you try to catch them "raw," you’re going to be chasing a tawny blur across the hillside for twenty minutes.

Shiny Kneazles and Breeding
Ever see a kneazle with a little star icon next to its name? That’s a "shiny." In Hogwarts Legacy, shiny kneazles are usually a distinct silvery or grey color compared to the standard tawny/brown.
They don't give you better fur.
Wait—read that again. A shiny kneazle produces the exact same resource as a regular one. The only reason to hunt them is for the "cool factor" in your Vivarium or if you’re trying to collect every variation.
Breeding Tip: If you want a constant supply of fur without traveling to a kneazle den every few days, catch a male and a female. Toss them in a Breeding Pen in your Room of Requirement. Every 30 minutes, you’ll get a new offspring. It’s basically a fur factory.
Why Kneazle Fur is Non-Negotiable
You use this stuff at the Enchanted Loom. Specifically, it’s required for Tier 3 Traits.
Want to maximize your Confringo damage? Kneazle fur.
Want to make Bombarda absolutely nuclear? Kneazle fur.
Most players make the mistake of ignoring beasts until the very end of the game. Don't be that person. Start visiting a kneazle den as soon as Deek gives you the Nab-Sack quest. You’ll thank yourself when you’re one-shotting Trolls later on.
What to Do Next
- Open your map and find Brocburrow.
- Equip Arresto Momentum and Disillusionment.
- Fly south, grab at least two kneazles (one male, one female), and get them into your Vivarium.
- Brush and feed them immediately to start your first harvest of fur.
By setting up a breeding pair early, you eliminate the need to ever hunt for a den again. You can just stop by your Room of Requirement between missions, collect your materials, and keep your gear at peak performance.
