If you’ve been wandering around Chenyu Vale lately, you’ve probably seen those floating jade carps and wondered what the heck you're supposed to do with them. It's the Rainjade Rite. Honestly, it’s one of the more relaxing systems Genshin Impact has added in a long time, but if you don't go in with a plan, you're going to be backtracking across those misty mountains for hours.
You shouldn't just rush into it.
The Rainjade Rite is basically the "Tree" or "Fountain" mechanic for the Liyue expansion in Version 4.4. It’s located at the Votive Rainjade in Chiwang Terrace. But here's the kicker: you can't just walk up and start dumping Spirit Carp into it. You have to earn the right to be there.
Why You Can't Just "Start" the Rainjade Rite
Most people think they can just explore, find a few glowing blue fish-things, and level up. Nope. The game locks the entire Votive Rainjade behind a massive world quest series called "Chenyu's Blessings of Sunken Jade."
It’s long. It’s lore-heavy.
You’ll spend a lot of time following a Little Mao and dealing with the Fujin, the tea-loving Adeptus. Only after you finish the final quest, "An Ancient Sacrifice of Sacred Brocade," will the path to Chiwang Terrace actually open up. If you haven't done this yet, stop hunting for Carp. You're just filling up your inventory with stuff you can't use.
Once the quest is done, you need to wait 48 hours in-game or sometimes just a daily reset for the quest "Chiwang's Echo" to pop up. That is your actual ticket to the rite.
The Spirit Carp Problem
Let’s talk about Spirit Carp. There are 50 of them. That's it.
Unlike the Geoculus or Anemoculus where you have hundreds to track down, these are more like the Crimson Agate from Dragonspine. They are scattered vertically. Very vertically. Chenyu Vale has a lot of hidden caves and high peaks that look identical on the 2D map.
I’d highly recommend using the gadget you get from the offering system itself—the "Rainjade Treasure"—but you don't get that until you hit Level 10. Talk about a Catch-22.
Breaking Down the Levels
You need 5 Spirit Carp per level. There are 10 levels total.
The rewards are actually decent for once. You get the standard Fates, but the big prize is the "Spirit of the Azure Rite" namecard and the "Jade-Leaf Tea Vessel" furnishing.
- Level 1-4: Mostly standard stuff. Mystic Enhancement Ores, some Mora.
- Level 5: A Crown of Insight. Always useful, never enough of them.
- Level 7: More Intertwined Fates.
- Level 10: The final namecard and the "Radiant Spincrystal."
But wait. There's a hidden mechanic. Once you collect 40 Spirit Carp and reach Level 9, the Votive Rainjade reveals the locations of the remaining 10 Carp on your map. It’s a pity system. HoYoverse finally realized that hunting for that one last floating blue pixel is a nightmare.
Navigating the Terrain Effectively
If you’re preparing for the Rainjade Rite, you need to get comfortable with the Golden Carp’s Leap mechanic. It's that little water droplet icon that zips you across the sky.

It feels faster than flying. Because it is.
A lot of the Spirit Carp are tucked under the "roots" of the floating islands or inside the mouths of those giant stone carp statues. Don't just look up. Look inside things. There’s one particularly annoying Carp hidden behind a breakable rock wall near Mt. Xuanlian that doesn't show up on the mini-map unless you’re standing right on top of it.
The Best Team for the Job
You don't need a combat meta team here. You need utility.
- Xianyun or Kazuha: The verticality in Chenyu Vale is punishing. If you have Xianyun (Cloud Retainer), use her. She was literally designed for this terrain.
- Furina: There is a lot of water. Walking on it saves time.
- A Archer: A few Carp are tied to "hit the floating balloon" puzzles. Don't get caught without a bow user.
- Gaming or Xiao: For the plunging attack puzzles and general mobility.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Don't ignore the "Jademouth" area. It looks like a giant hole in the ground (which it is), but the layering is complex. There are Carp at the very bottom, in the middle tunnels, and at the very top rim.
Also, don't forget the "Spiritview" mechanic. If a puzzle looks impossible, it’s probably because you need to use the "T" key (on PC) to resonate with a nearby jade incense burner.
Actionable Steps to Finish the Rite
If you want to get this done in a single weekend, follow this specific order.
First, clear the Chenyu's Blessings of Sunken Jade questline. Don't get distracted by chests. Just push the story until you see the credits for that quest arc. This unlocks the fast travel point to the Votive Rainjade.
Second, go to the Upper Vale first. It has the highest concentration of "easy" Spirit Carp that aren't locked behind secondary puzzles. You can hit Level 4 or 5 just by doing a lap of the northern mountains.
Third, use an interactive map for the Mt. Lingmeng area. The caves there are a literal maze. It's easy to think you've cleared a room when there's actually a crawlspace behind a waterfall holding a Carp.
Fourth, once you hit Level 9, stop using the interactive map. The in-game "reveal" is more accurate because it accounts for the 3D height of the Carp, whereas a web-based map might leave you guessing if the item is in the sky or in a basement.
Finally, keep an eye on your "Adeptal Energy." Some puzzles require you to move green jade spheres into pedestals. If the sphere won't move, you're likely standing too far away or there's a combat encounter nearby that's "blocking" the interaction.
The Rainjade Rite isn't a race, but it is a requirement if you want to max out your Liyue reputation and get those shiny new wings. Get the quests out of the way, grab a character who can jump high, and start climbing.
