Silent Hill 2 Remake Apartment Walkthrough: What Most People Get Wrong

Silent Hill 2 Remake Apartment Walkthrough: What Most People Get Wrong

Look, the Wood Side and Blue Creek apartments in the Silent Hill 2 Remake are basically a giant, multi-story hazing ritual. You walk in thinking it’s a quick detour. Two hours later, you’re knee-deep in a moth-infested bathroom, wondering why James Sunderland keeps sticking his hand in disgusting holes.

Honestly, it’s easy to get turned around here. The layout is intentionally confusing, looping back on itself with locked doors that won’t budge until you’ve found some random coin or a valve handle. If you’re stuck, you’re not alone. I’ve seen enough people run past the handgun entirely because they were too busy dodging Lying Figures.

Let's break down the actual path through this nightmare so you can get out of the fog and into the rest of the game.

Wood Side Apartments Walkthrough: The Coin Hunt

You start at Wood Side. It’s "normal" world Silent Hill, meaning it’s just creepy, not "walls are bleeding" creepy yet. Your main goal here is the Coin Cabinet in the reception area. You need three coins: Man, Woman, and Snake.

Finding the Gear

First thing's first: you need the Flashlight. Go up to the second floor (2F) and head to Room 202. It’s on a mannequin. Grab it, but get ready to swing—a Mannequin enemy will jump you immediately after. Right next to it is the Chute Courtyard Key.

Go back to 1F. Use that key on the door near the save point to reach the courtyard. You’ll see a cart. Move it under the open window of Room 112. Jump in. This leads you to the Golden Apple Handle in Room 108 and eventually the 2F Hallway Key.

Where the Coins Are Hiding

People always miss the Man Coin. You have to get into Room 208, use the Golden Apple Handle on the wardrobe, and look through the peephole. This triggers a path into Room 206. Inside is a safe.

  • The Safe Code: Right 13, Left 7, Right 11 (on Standard). Open it for the Man Coin.

The Woman Coin is stuck in the trash chute. Classic Silent Hill. You need to find the Canned Juice on 3F in the trash chute room. Throw the juice down the chute to dislodge the coin. You’ll find it later in the courtyard dumpster area on 1F.

The Snake Coin is in the pool area. It’s outside where you first meet Eddie. Don't let the monsters distract you; the coin is in a baby carriage in the middle of the pool. Gross? Yes. Necessary? Also yes.

Solving the Wood Side Coin Puzzle

Once you have all three, go back to the cabinet. This puzzle changes based on your difficulty.

On Standard Difficulty, it’s a four-stage riddle.

  1. Stage 1: Man in the far-left slot, Woman in the middle, Flower (back of Snake) in the far-right.
  2. Stage 2: Flip the Man to the Sword. Move him one right. Move the Woman one right.
  3. Stage 3: Flip all three. Man stays, Woman becomes Grave, Snake is revealed.
  4. Stage 4: The riddle asks who is to blame. Move the Snake Coin to the top slot.

This gives you the Apartment 201 Key. Go inside, watch the cutscene, and welcome to the Otherworld.

Blue Creek Apartments Walkthrough: The Clock Puzzle

Blue Creek is where things get weird. The map is different, the walls are peeling, and everything is darker. Your central hub is Room 212 with the Grandfather Clock. You need to find three hands: Hour, Minute, and Second.

The Hour Hand (Room 307)

You need a valve. Go to Room 304, find the valve, and take it to Room 307. Attach it to the pipe and turn it to drop the radio. The Hour Hand is inside the radio.

  • Clock Solution: Set the Hour Hand to 9. This unlocks the "H" doors.

The Minute Hand (Room 210)

Now that the "H" doors are open, head to Room 210. In the kitchen, there’s a breakable wall. Squeeze through to the bathroom and reach into the toilet. Yes, James does this a lot. You’ll pull out the Minute Hand.

  • Clock Solution: Set the Minute Hand to 2. This unlocks the "M" doors.

The Second Hand and the Moth Puzzle

This is the part that trips everyone up. Go to Room 202 (the "M" door). It’s filled with moths. You need a code for the padlock. Look at the symbols on the wings of the moths around the room: Moons, Skulls, and Circles.

Don’t forget the hidden moth. Break the wall in the room to find a bookshelf. Push it to reveal a moth with more symbols.

  • Standard Code: 373.
  • Hard Code: 522.
  • Easy Code: 582.

Grab the Second Hand from the hole in the wall. Go back to the clock.

  • Clock Solution: Set the Second Hand to 3.

Actionable Tips for Survival

The apartments are a resource drain. If you aren't careful, you'll be out of ammo before you even see Pyramid Head.

  • Break Every Window: Many rooms have supplies hidden behind glass or in cabinets you can smash.
  • Stomp Everything: If a Lying Figure is on the ground, don't waste a bullet. Kick it until it stops twitching.
  • Check the Map Constantly: If a room is shaded red, there’s still an item in there. If it’s clear, move on.
  • The Handgun is in Room 217: If you reach Blue Creek without the gun, you missed it in Wood Side 2F. Go back if you can, or prepare to be very good with the wooden plank.

Once the clock is fully set to 9:10:15, the "S" door on 1F unlocks. This leads to the boss fight with Pyramid Head. Make sure you’ve grabbed all the health drinks in the building before you head through that door. You’re going to need them.
