You’ve probably been wandering around Lanayru for three hours, haven’t you? Honestly, it’s frustrating. You need that one specific spear to remake the Lightscale Trident or just to enjoy that sweet "Water Warrior" damage buff, but the game acts like they don't exist. Most people think you can just stumble upon one in a shop or a common chest, but the truth is a bit more annoying. Finding where to find a zora spear in Tears of the Kingdom (or even Breath of the Wild) requires knowing exactly which Lizalfos is holding out on you.
The easiest spots to check first
Basically, if you’re playing Tears of the Kingdom, your best bet is a side quest called Mired in Muck. You’ll find a Zora named Bazz trapped in sludge right at the base of the Upland Zorana Skyview Tower. Splash some water on him—use a Splash Fruit or a ChuChu Jelly—and he’ll just hand you a Zora Spear. It’s the closest thing to a "freebie" you’re going to get.
But what if you already broke that one?
Go to the Upland Zorana Foothill Cave. It's northwest of Zora's Domain. There’s a chest inside that’s practically guaranteed to have one. You’ll have to break some boulders and maybe use Ascend to reach the upper levels, but it’s there. Also, keep an eye on the Lizalfos patrolling the path from the Lanayru Wetlands toward the Domain. Specifically, there's a Lizalfos near the bridge northwest of the city—he’s almost always carrying one.
Why the "decayed" version is actually a trap
In Tears of the Kingdom, almost every spear you find on the surface is "decayed." It looks like trash. It has low durability. Sorta depressing, right?
The real power is in the pristine versions, but you can't just find those. You have to break the decayed version first. It sounds counterintuitive, but the game won't spawn a "clean" Zora Spear in the Depths until you've used and shattered a decayed one on the surface. Once you’ve done that, head to the Depths directly beneath the Lanayru region. Look for those ghostly soldier statues on stone pedestals.
They hold the shiny, non-decayed weapons.
If the ghost is holding a Traveler’s Spear instead, just take it and throw it away. You have to "clear the cache" of that pedestal. After the next Blood Moon, there’s a chance it’ll swap out for the Zora version. It’s a bit of a grind, but the durability difference is massive.

Where to find a zora spear in Breath of the Wild
If you’re playing the older game, the locations are totally different but a bit more reliable.
- The pool in Zora's Domain: There’s one sitting at the bottom of a pool on the middle level, right near where the priest stands. Use Magnesis. It’s right there, literally under your nose.
- Bank of Wishes: Check the Lizalfos camps between the Bank of Wishes and Ralis Pond. There’s a weapon rack in one of these camps that respawns a Zora Spear every single Blood Moon.
- Tabahl Woods: A Lizalfos on a log in this area usually has one.
You need these specifically if you want Dento to remake Mipha’s Lightscale Trident. He won't accept a Silverscale Spear or a Ceremonial Trident. It has to be the base model.
Tips for keeping your spear alive
Don't let it break. Seriously.

If you find a pristine Zora Spear with a good modifier (like Attack Up +10), take it to a Rock Octorok in the Eldin region. Drop the spear in front of it while it's doing its vacuum-inhale move. It’ll suck the spear up, chew on it, and spit it back out fully repaired with a new random buff.
Just remember: one Octorok per Blood Moon.
Also, if you're using it for combat, always keep a way to get wet. Sidon’s power is the obvious choice, but throwing a Splash Fruit at your own feet works too. The "Water Warrior" trait doubles the weapon's base damage when Link is wet. It makes a "weak" spear suddenly outclass Royal Claymores. It's kinda broken if you use it right.
Actionable Next Steps
- Check your map: Teleport to the Upland Zorana Skyview Tower and glide down to the Foothill Cave if you haven't raided that chest yet.
- Break it on purpose: If you only have decayed spears, go poke a Hinox until the spear shatters so the pristine versions start appearing in the Depths.
- Mark the ghosts: When you find a ghost soldier in the Depths under Lanayru holding a spear, put a stamp on your map so you can check it every Blood Moon.
- Visit Pelison: If you’ve fused something rare (like a Silver Lynel Horn) to a Zora Spear and it's about to break, go to Tarrey Town. Pelison can break them apart for 20 rupees so you don't lose your expensive materials.
Finding a Zora Spear isn't about luck as much as it is about knowing which specific pond or cave the developers tucked them into. Stick to the Lanayru region, bully some Lizalfos, and you'll have a full inventory of them in no time.
