You get one call stack, one memory heap, and if you write a while(true) loop, the whole browser tab turns into a frozen brick. For years, we just accepted this as the price of admission for the web's simplicity. We got really good at faking concurrency with the Event Loop, using setTimeout or Promises to make things feel fast even when they were technically just waiting in line.
But honestly, that "single-threaded" label is kind of a lie nowadays. Or at least, it’s only half the story.
If you’re building a heavy data-processing tool, a physics engine for a web game, or even just a complex dashboard that crunches massive JSON files, the main thread is your enemy. When the main thread is busy calculating the Fibonacci sequence for the billionth time, it can't handle a click event. The UI stutters. Users get annoyed.
