Brand Score

Our reviews are based on extensive research and years of professional knowledge of dog food brands. In order to remain objective, we do not accept gifts of free products or write sponsored posts on this site.

We’ve examined Annamaet dog food closely and graded the brand according to the PupJunkies.com standard.

Our criteria include ingredients, quality, customer experience, recall history, working with veterinary nutritionists to formulate the food, nutritional standards, research, and price.

About Annamaet Dog Food

Annamaet was founded by Rob Downey and his wife Mary Jo in the 1980s. Rob Downey has a background in animal nutrition from the University of Pennsylvania, where he worked as a field researcher and graduate student.

Some of his studies included looking at the endurance of Beagles and sled dogs and helped shift dog foods for canine athletes away from carbs and toward a higher fat diet.

Downey and Annamaet’s other certified veterinary nutritionist on staff continue to publish in peer-reviewed journals.

The company is family-owned and operated, with the adult Downey children now helping to run the business.

Along with Annamaet dog food, the company also makes cat food, treats, and supplements. It is located in Sellersville/Hatfield, Pennsylvania.

Sourcing and Manufacturing

According to information found on Chewy.com, Annamaet gets their ingredients from the following sources:

“Annamaet sources most of their high-quality ingredients within the United States depending on availability. Some of the vitamins are produced in Europe. Vitamin C is from England, Biotin from France, and L-carnitine from the Czech Republic as none of these are produced in the US. The salmon is from Alaska and the herring is Canadian.”

Our best guess is that Annamaet is manufactured at one (or more) of the Ohio Pet Foods plants but this is only an educated guess. We didn’t find any solid answers online about where Annamaet dog food is made.

Recall History

We did not find any indication that Annamaet has ever had a recall. The company sold their first dog food in 1986 so this is remarkable.

According to the company, they have been testing their products and ingredients at independent labs since they begin operating. Kudos!

How Much Does Annamaet Dog Food Cost?

Many of the Annamaet dog food formulas are higher in price than other typical premium dog foods. Annamaet does use low-ash meats and poultry, fit for human consumption.

This suggests that they may be using better quality meat protein than some other companies. However, their ash content isn’t that much lower.

What Do Customers Think Of Annamaet Dog Food?

Most Annamaet dog foods get about 80 percent 5-star reviews (or more); and more than 90 percent of customers on Chewy.com would recommend the foods to others.

Overall, Is Annamaet Dog Food A Good Choice?

Yes, many of Annamaet’s dog foods look very good. We especially like their grain-inclusive formulas.

Their grain-free foods tend to be heavy on peas and lentils in the first five ingredients which could be problematic.

If you are looking at Annamaet all life stage foods for a puppy, keep in mind that while small breed puppies can make use of more calories for energy, large and giant breed puppies need to grow slowly.

They do well with moderate fat and calories.

Where Is Annamaet Dog Food Sold?
