Honestly, it feels like we just finished grinding the Season 1 Battle Pass, but the community is already losing its collective mind over the next big drop. If you’re like me, you’re probably refreshing the Treyarch blog every five minutes. Let’s cut to the chase: the BO6 Season 2 release date is officially locked in for January 28, 2025.
Yeah, it’s coming fast.

We’re talking about a massive content injection that’s basically going to redefine how we play the game for the next two months. Activision hasn't been shy about teasing this one. We’ve got a roadmap that looks more like an encyclopedia of destruction. Between new maps, "The Terminator" appearing in the store, and a literal skatepark map coming back, there’s a lot to digest.
Why the January 28 Date is Solid
You know how Call of Duty works by now. They love their Tuesdays. Since Season 1 is slated to wrap up right around then based on the in-game timer, the BO6 Season 2 release date follows the standard 75-day cycle we’ve seen in recent years. If there are no last-minute delays—and let's be real, those usually only happen for game-breaking bugs—you can expect the update to go live at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET.
If you’re in the UK, that’s 5 PM GMT. Perfect time to finish work, grab a snack, and spend three hours waiting for a 100GB patch to download.
What’s Actually Coming in Season 2?
This isn't just a couple of new guns and a "double XP" weekend. Treyarch is going for the throat with this update. They’ve confirmed five new multiplayer maps right out of the gate.
Bounty is the one everyone is talking about. It’s set on a skyscraper in Avalon. Think high stakes, long sightlines, and plenty of opportunities to accidentally walk off a ledge while trying to look cool. Then there’s Dealership, which is exactly what it sounds like—a high-end car showroom that’s about to get its windows smashed.
But the real nostalgia hit? Grind.
If you remember the Black Ops II days, you know why this is a big deal. The skatepark is returning mid-season. It’s fast, it’s chaotic, and it’s probably where you’re going to die to a combat axe at least ten times a match.
The Weapons Meta is About to Shift
Look, the current meta is... fine. But we’re getting four primary weapons that are going to shake things up.
- Cypher 091 (Assault Rifle): Early leaks suggest this is going to be the new mid-range king.
- PPSh-41 (SMG): The legend returns. If it’s anything like previous iterations, the fire rate will be absolutely disgusting.
- Feng 82 (LMG): For those who don't like to let go of the trigger.
- TR2 (Marksman Rifle): Precision players, this one's for you.
There’s also a "Saw Blade Launcher" coming. Because apparently, regular bullets weren't enough. We need to be firing literal construction equipment at people now.

Zombies and Warzone: The Forgotten Children?
Hardly.
Zombies fans are getting a new map called The Tomb. Details are still a bit thin, but the vibe seems to be "claustrophobic ancient ruins meets cosmic horror." If you’re still trying to finish the Citadelle des Morts Easter egg, you better hurry up.
Warzone is also getting the full integration treatment for Season 2. We're looking at "Ranked Play" improvements and a focus on stabilizing the Avalon map. There’s been a lot of chatter about anti-cheat upgrades, too. Ricochet is apparently getting a "kernel-level driver upgrade" during this window to deal with the surge of wall-hackers that usually pop up mid-season.
The Weird Crossovers We Didn't See Coming
Can we talk about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
I’m serious.
There’s a TMNT event scheduled for late February. We’re getting katanas, nunchucks, and even a "Skateboard" melee weapon. It’s weird, it’s probably going to look out of place in a gritty spy thriller, but I’m 100% going to be running around as Leonardo with a riot shield.
Then there’s the Terminator crossover. We're getting T-800 and T-1000 skins. It’s a total nostalgia play for the 80s action movie crowd, but hey, it works.
How to Prepare for the BO6 Season 2 Release Date
If you want to actually enjoy launch day instead of staring at a progress bar, do these three things:
- Clear your hard drive now. This update is going to be hefty. If you’ve got old games you haven't touched since 2023, delete them.
- Finish the Season 1 Battle Pass. Those Tier 100 rewards won't be available once the BO6 Season 2 release date hits.
- Bank your 2XP tokens. Don't use them now. Wait until the new weapons drop so you can max out the PPSh-41 in under an hour.
The community is divided on whether more maps or better anti-cheat is the priority, but one thing is certain: Season 2 is looking like the biggest post-launch update in Black Ops history. Whether you’re here for the sweaty ranked matches or just want to throw saw blades at people in a car dealership, January 28 is the day everything changes.
Check your download speeds and get your loadouts ready. See you in Avalon.
Actionable Next Steps:
