About Chippin Pet Food
Co-founders Laura Colagrande and Haley Russell created a fun, forward-thinking brand that keeps sustainability in focus at all times. Haley Russell wanted to start a food company using crickets as a protein source and needed to understand how willing people would be to eat them. In 2017, she sought out Paul Rozin, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was an MBA student.
This team partnered with local farmers to make food with 100% traceable ingredients, alternative proteins, and a far cleaner supply chain than any big-name dog food brand that so many of us still buy.
Chippin began with a mission to make nutritious, delicious pet food that is not only good for our furry friends but also good for the planet. They have reimagined the main protein sources historically found in pet food, the ones that use valuable natural resources and give off harmful greenhouse emissions, and have found two sustainable alternatives good for our pets and our planet, as in crickets and silver carp!
Now this two-person company sells several varieties of dog treats that mix crickets with flavors such as peanut butter and apples.
Sourcing And Manufacturing
Chippin is made in the USA, and they partner with small to medium-sized local farms to directly source humane-grade cricket, spirulina, and silver carp proteins. The farmers they use are partners they know and trust and they say no to commodity meats from unknown sources.
The crickets and silver carp fish Chippin Pet sources are humanely harvested from small to medium-sized farmers and fishery partners.
The crickets are harvested at the end of their natural life cycle and live in conditions that they would naturally select. While the silver carp is wild-caught, by fishing for this overpopulated fish, we help restore biodiversity, improve water quality, and protect the Great Lakes.
