Administering /Test
After using CBD oils for months, I have learned that getting the dropper in my dogs mouth is not worth the fight. Like any CBD oil, it is recommended you dispense the oil directly into your dogs mouth but you do have the option to add it to your dogs food or treats which i what I now prefer. It may take a little longer to kick in but will save you from a possibly wrestling match.
HolistaPet recommends between 0.25 mg (Regular Dose) to 0.5 mg (Strong Dose) of CBD per every 1 lb of body weight. Therefore, my 60 (60 X 0.25 = 15) pound dog should receive 15mg of the CBD oil. To control pain and inflammation, give your dog a dose every 8 hours or as needed. To control anxiety, you will want to give your dog a dose 30 minutes before the event, weather that be thunder, fireworks or travel. For all other uses give once to twice a day.
If you are giving your dog the CBD treats they recommend .25mg to .05mg for every pound of body weight. Or one 5mg treat for every 20 pounds of body-weight once or twice per day. If your dog needs a stronger does you may double that to 2 treats or 10mg for every 20 pounds. I started my dog out with 3 treats because he is around 60 pounds.
My dog did not notice the CBD oil mixed into his food and ate it with no problem. I would say it took close to an hour to take affect completely but was clearly working. I will say my dog did not take to the treats. I offered him a few and he had no interest. I eventually added peanut butter to them and made a sandwich with two. He did eat that.
