Jiminy’s is a pet food company that makes sustainable treats and food using cricket protein. The company’s headquarters are in Berkeley, California. Anne, founder of Jiminy, a pet food company, decided to focus on climate change as a small and manageable problem.
She realized that creating sustainable food for dogs could impact 80–90% of their total consumption with a single product, unlike humans. She discovered that insects could be the answer to world hunger and decided to explore this idea.
To test the dogs’ liking for the new protein source, they made dog treats. The dogs loved the food, found it to be nutritious, and could digest it as well as beef or chicken. The company’s goal is to create a complete and balanced diet that addresses the growing need for sustainable food options.
Jiminy collaborated with a veterinarian with two PhDs in animal nutrition and entomology to design dog food. The food meets AAFCO standards for maintenance and has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Animal Science. The team worked with Iowa State and Animal Biome.

This dog food is made from insect protein, sweet potatoes, flaxseed, and chicory root, free from fillers and artificial additives. Crickets and grubs are a complete protein source with amino acids, fiber, iron, and prebiotic properties and require less land to produce. Crickets live in cricket condos, while grubs are harvested as larvae near the end of their natural life cycle.
