About Nom Nom

A few years ago, a group of animal enthusiasts decided to explore the idea of cooking and delivering fresh dog food to those close to them. This was prompted by their belief that preparing fresh food was important, especially after their dog, Harlee, began experiencing health issues tied to a weakened immune system. Following their vet’s recommendation, they switched to a fresh food diet to support her well-being.

As Harlee’s health improved, people showed interest in the food and service came in, the friends hired expert nutritionist Dr. Justin Shmalberg who developed and formulated the best possible recipes.

These recipes use real, whole-food ingredients, which are good enough for human consumption and are proportioned for your dog’s health.

The unprocessed meals are made in small batches and with whole foods, to retain more nutrients and exceed the AAFCO standards for dog food formulation for all life stages.

Sourcing and Manufacturing

Nom Nom ensures that their pet food is made of whole food ingredients that are sourced in the USA and approved by the USDA for human consumption. To ensure a completely balanced meal, they use a nutrient mix developed by Dr. Justin Shmalberg.

Each recipe includes a custom blend of essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B12, Iron, Iodine, Zinc, Selenium, Copper, Manganese, Choline, and Taurine. Nom Nom prepares every meal fresh weekly with restaurant-quality ingredients, and they are cooked gently to ensure the safety and digestibility of the food.

Nom Nom also opened a new 67,000-square-foot production kitchen in Nashville, Tennessee, to meet the growing demand for their food on the East Coast. This location is seven times larger than their original processing facility in Pittsburg, California.

Nom Nom takes pride in preparing every meal in their own kitchen facilities in Nashville, Tennessee, and the San Francisco Bay Area of California. They never outsource to third parties and carefully inspect and test every ingredient for safety and quality. Nom Nom produces only small, made-to-order batches, ensuring zero food waste and delivering the freshest meals possible to their customers.

Recall History

Nom Nom issued a voluntary recall in 2021 for its Chicken Cuisine for cats due to a recall by its supplier, Tyson Foods. The Chicken Cuisine recipe is now discontinued, but Nom Nom’s fresh dog food has never been recalled.

What Kinds Of Dog Food Does Nom Nom Offer?

I purchased two variety packs of food for dogs, which included all four recipe flavors. They were neatly organized with plastic straps, inside of the insulated box, and chilled with dry ice. Once you have tried the variety packs and selected your dog’s meal type for your next order, you will receive shipments every two weeks, of 28 individual packets of food, which arrive fresh, and packed in dry ice to keep it cool.

To much starch, more potatoes than meat. Other than that dog seemed to like 3 of the 4 packs. Totally disliked one of the chicken packs. More meat please.

Sorry to hear that! The great thing about Nom Nom is you can customize your recipes and stick with what you and your dog like.

You are paying THAT much for a potato? Wow. My pugs aren't even supposed to eat them in the 1st place. Everything I read says no potato. I'm confused.

          Amy

Hi Sarah Nom Nom dog food provides human grade, restaurant quality ingredients in every meal but do not claim to be non-GMO. Corn, soybeans, and canola, some of the most commonly genetically modified products and are not used in Nom Nom's recipes.

      • Ben

Used nomnom for 6 months, my dog enjoyed all except the pork, meals I found to be sometimes to be proportioned by weight horribly, when contacting nomnom about issues, all I received was a “sorry“ but nothing else; slick packaging and marketing; I felt there was too much vegetables as fillers; the raised pricing, over all dog liked taste and was convenient; but very pricey.

The food never seems to be cold when it is delivered, even when said packed in dry ice. I have never seen a dry ice package in the box.Living in Arizona where temps reach over 100 in the summer month,I do not feel safe in feeding it to my dog.The first box I threw out the food it was very warm to touch. The second box only 3 packs were cold the rest were slightly cool except for 2 that were warm.

Debbi I have the same problem with Nom Nom food, living in Arizona. I contacted customer service and told them about my issue and they added more dry ice packs to my shipments. This seemed to help. I would suggest you do the same and see if it works for you too.
