NomNomNow Dog Food Review
NomNomNow was founded in 2015 by a group of animal lovers. The company creates and delivers fresh, human-grade, customized home-cooked meals for your dog to ensure they live happy, healthy, and long lives.
NomNomNow’s meals are made with restaurant-quality ingredients, no artificial preservatives or fillers and portions are optimized to provide your dog with the ideal balance for his age, weight, activity level, breed, as well as any known health issues.
The meals are cooked weekly in the company’s kitchen, individually portioned, and arrive fresh, at your door and ready to serve.
Recently, NomNomNow announced the opening of a new 67,000-sq.-ft. production kitchen in Nashville to meet demands on the East Coast. The new location is seven-times larger than the company’s original processing facility in Pittsburg, California.
NomNomNow for dogs provides five delicious and nutritious recipes. Each meal comes ready to serve and delivered to your door stress free. NomNowNow also offers a Variety Pack so that you can allow your dog to choose his favorite.
All recipes were developed by the company’s Chief Nutrition Officer, board-certified veterinary nutritionist Dr. Justin Shmalberg. The unprocessed meals are made in small batches and with whole foods, to retain more nutrients. Other benefits include:
- Real, whole food ingredients, good enough for human consumption
- Perfectly portioned meals personalized for your dog’s health and weight goals
- Choose multiple recipes in a single order for variety or picky eaters
- Exceeds AAFCO standards for dog food formulation for all life stages
How it Works
To get started with NomNomNow, you will need to create a profile for your dog, which asks you to provide their current weight, target weight, birthday and recipe selection. The cost ultimately depends on the size of your dog.
For every pound of pup you enter, the price will go up. We created 3 profiles for small, medium and large size dogs to give you an idea of what you can expect to pay.
Small dog (5-20 lbs): $16- $28 weekly
Medium size dog (20 -50 lbs): $30–$54 weekly
Large dog (50-80 lbs): $56-$70 weekly
NomNomNow offers a sample box, which allows potential customers to receive four meals for only $14.99.
You will be notified via email when your order ships and provided a tracking number.
Next you will receive a shipment with the samples of the dog food options they offer. You are also able to rotate your dog’s food choices before each delivery.
Once you have tried the samples and selected your dog’s meal type, you will receive monthly shipments of 56 individual packets of food, which arrive fresh, and packed in dry ice to keep it cool.
NomNomNow has two automatic delivery options: weekly deliveries, bi-weekly, and monthly deliveries.
The weekly deliveries come with a shipment of 14 meal packs, which is two meals per day and bi-weekly is 28 meals. They do recommend that you store the food packets in the freezer and take them out when needed.
Managing your account is easy and you are able to log in to pause your subscription up to two weeks in advance or the next two deliveries.
You are also able to request extra meals for travel or even have meals delivered to a different address. If you need to cancel your subscription you will need to contact customer service via email or by phone.

I was sent four pouches of different flavors of food. They were neatly organized with rubber bands inside of the box and chilled with dry ice.
The box contained additional items like the chicken jerky treats and a microbiome testing kit.
The shipment also included a handy instruction booklet that included nutritional information and suggestions on transitioning your pets to the NomNomNow food as well as a Heart Health Facts print out.
Heartland Beef Mash Review
When I opened the food packet it was easy to identify the ingredients and it smelled like human food. It is obvious this is fresh made food and my dog noticed as well. I placed the bowl of food down in front of him and it seems he ate the entire serving in two bites. Needless to say, he really liked this recipe.
Chicken Chow-Wow Review
On day 2 we tried this recipe which looked and smell as fresh as the previous food. What I noticed right away was the big chunks of squash and sweet potatoes mixed with chicken and spinach. I thought my dog would hesitate with all those vegetables. Again my dog did not refuse this meal and ate it quickly.
Tasty Turkey Fare Review
On the third day we tried the Tasty Turkey Fare flavor. Again it looked and smelled fresh. I could clearly see the carrots, spinach and egg piece in the mix of food. On this day my dog barely let me put the bowl down before inhaling the meal and staring at me as if asking for more.
Porkalicious Potluck Review
The last flavor to sample was the Porkalicious Potluck. By now my dog is ecstatic by meal time and dancing around the kitchen. This meal flavor was no different than the others in freshness and also had chunks of vegetables mixed in. At this point I know my dog isn’t going to refuse any of these meals and once again it was gone in seconds.
What’s Good About it
- Very easy to order
- Smells and looks like real food
- Pre-portioned servings
- Veterinary nutritionist ensures meals are nutritionally balanced
What is Not so Good
- It is on the pricey side.
- Must be refrigerated.
- Packets can be difficult to open
Microbiome Test Kit Review
In addition to food packets and chicken jerky,
I was sent a microbiome test kit. Microbes can contribute to pet illnesses if there are disruptions to a healthy balance in the microbiome, which is in the gut. It is explained that observing which microbes live in your pet’s gut can be tested in a noninvasive manner by evaluating stool.
The instructions say to take a sample or your pets stool and place it in the tube provided.
They also provide a small prepaid envelope to send it off to be tested. Once the test is done, you will receive a report of your pet’s microbiome after it has been sequenced.
Included in the report are measures of the microbiome’s diversity, its composition, and a comparison with other healthy dogs.
If I could afford to feed my dog fresh delivered dog food, NomNomNow would be my first choice. It is just not in my current budget. I do like how fresh this food smells and that all ingredients are easily identifiable. I also like that the company customizes meal plans based on your dog’s profile and considers any health issues. I can say, without a doubt, my dog loved NomNomNow food and was not partial to any particular flavor.
Is It Worth It?
If you want to provide your dog with the best food and it is in your budget, then NomNomNow is definitely worth it.
In addition, not all fresh dog food delivery manufacturers use human grade ingredients and prepare food in a USDA-inspected and approved kitchen like NomNomNow.
Other fresh dog food delivery services, such as Ollie, PetPlate, The Farmer’s Dog, Raw Paws, and JustFoodForDogs, do not compare in many ways to NomNomNow.
What makes NomNomNow stand out? They have several meal options for dogs of all shapes and sizes, convenient packaging, flexible delivery schedule, easy-to-use website and sample packs available, just to name a few.
NomNomNow makes high quality dog food and provides flexible delivery schedules making pet owners lives easier.
Giving your dog fresh food will mitigate visits to the vet over time. You might be spending more money buying NomNomNow food but overall you will be saving yourself money on veterinary visits.
