The Anxious Pet has Closed

After over three years in business, the anxious pet has closed its doors. They do recommend, for your CBD and supplement needs, trying Honest Paws.

Their products are organic, non-GMO, soy-free, and lab-tested by a third party to ensure the best quality.

You can read our Honest Paws CDB review Here.

How We Tested:

  • We received The Anxious Pet CBD products to review
  • We spent a week testing it on our dogs
  • We did not receive this product in exchange for a favorable review

What to Look for in a CBD Product

When it comes to high-quality CBD for dogs, there are certain factors that are important in determining the safety and efficacy of the product.

  • Organic: If the CBD is not organic, make sure it does not contain pesticides, fungicides, or solvents.
  • Price: The higher the quality and purity, the higher the cost will be.  If you choose a cheaper option, it could have toxic substances such as pesticides, herbicides, or heavy metals in it. Make sure your CBD oil choice is free of additives.
  • Certificate of analysis – The manufacturer should provide a certificate of analysis (COA) that tells you the amount of CBD that is in the product. Many CBD products contain only small amounts of CBD. Also look for oils that have their products tested by third-party labs to ensure they don’t contain harmful materials.
  • Liquid – You can buy dog treats that contain CBD, but the most effective form to administer, is an oil or tincture. CBD oil in a bottle is considered the purest form and also makes it easier to adjust your dog’s dosage.
  • Extraction process: Processes like superficial CO2 or cold-press extraction are considered the safest because they do not involve the use of harmful solvents.
  • THC Levels: While all CBD from hemp should contain under.3% THC, it is recommended to purchase a product that contains zero detectable THC on the certificate of analysis (COA). Dogs react much differently to THC than humans, and even trace amounts of THC can have negative effects on small animals.
  • Broad spectrum: When shopping for CBD oil for your dog, you may see “broad-spectrum CBD oil” or “CBD isolate.”. The broad spectrum uses the many cannabinoids and terpenes found naturally in hemp, while CBD isolate contains only CBD. Experts believe the whole plant offers an “entourage effect,” and your dog benefits from a more complete variety of the phytochemicals found in hemp.

About The Anxious Pet

The Anxious Pet was inspired by the founder Brock’s dog Boulder, and his challenges with anxiety. Brock built The Anxious Pet to help people feel ok about their pet and themselves as pet parents.

He began by gathering passionate pet industry experts in product development, educational & research, and a cutting edge veterinarian, who has used CBD to treat pet cancer patients over the past five years.

The company’s sole purpose is to help pets live happier, more peaceful lives. There isn’t much information about the company on their website, other than that.

Sourcing and Manufacturing

The Anxious Pet states their products were formulated by veterinarians, as well as being sourced and made with responsibility.

They do not provide a % of THC on their product packaging (that I could find), but state that the amount of THC is significantly lower than what is considered legal for a hemp product and was carefully calculated by a veterinarian to confirm safety and reduce the risk of intoxication.

They do provide a COA (certificate of analysis) for their products and the link can be found in the product description. The do not explain their extraction process

It appears their products are made in Colorado, vegan and grain free and third party laboratory tested based on the graphics next to the product descriptions on their website.

Claims of The Anxious Pet CBD

According to their website, if your pet is suffering from anxiety, arthritis, or another medical condition that you believe may benefit from CBD pet products, The Anxious Pet recommends discussing it with your veterinarian to determine what makes sense for your dog’s (or cat’s) specific lifestyle.

Hemp-derived CBD products for pets are still new in the veterinary space, so the scientific verdict is still out on what CBD can and cannot do from a medical perspective. These products work together with a pet’s natural endocannabinoid system, which helps to regulate many of the body’s different functions in dogs and cats.

Based on both human and veterinary literature, CBD products may also help pets in the following ways:

  • Anti-inflammatory (i.e. hypersensitivity, dermatitis)
  • Reduction in pain
  • Reduction in seizures and convulsions
  • Immune system support (i.e. autoimmune disease, cancer)
  • Nervous system support
  • Cardiovascular system support
  • Reduction in anxiety
  • Gastrointestinal support

Keep in mind that research surrounding CBD products are still a work in progress, and some veterinarians may not be legally allowed to discuss, recommend or dispense products or may not feel comfortable doing so.

Administering /Test

Depending on what form of CBD and your dog, dosing may vary.

According to the directions on the CBD oil tincture, you can administer it to your dog’s mouth at mealtime or to his food directly. Shake the bottle before using the dropper.

To find the proper dosage amount, you will want to use the suggested dosage chart on the back of the bottle or the one below offered on their website.

Dosing for the CBD Oil

The chart recommends dosages based on your dog’s age and weight. Depending on the mg’s of CBD your bottle contains, you will want to use that chart when dosing your dog.

If you choose to give your dog the CBD chews, then you can administer them like treats. These can be given at anytime during the day and if you give more than one should be split between morning and evening doses. The suggested dosage for the chews can be found on the back of the container or on their website, as seen below.

The cost of the CBD product you choose will depend on how much your dog needs. The larger the dog, the higher the mg’s. If you are not sure which product is best for your dog, you can use the “take the quiz” button and answer questions about your dog’s size, eating habits, health issues, and more for a recommendation on which product is best.

Is Anxious Pet CBD a Good Choice?

The Anxious Pet CBD products may be a good choice, but there is little information provided about their products on the website. There is very little information on the sourcing of their ingredients, the extraction process, and where they are manufactured.

While The Anxious Pet offers competitive pricing and free shipping, there are superior brands out there with more transparency. They do offer a money-back guarantee and free shipping.

I did test both of these products on my dog and saw little difference in him when using the chews. I did give him the Hemp Oil to calm him during fireworks on the 4th of July, and he did remain calm. However, he isn’t a very anxious dog. He struggles with joint pain mostly and in that area I saw little change.
